Jenny’s still life work explores her thinking about the basic elements of matter (cones, cubes and spheres) by depicting a small number of forms and objects in relation to each other and to the spaces between them.
The paintings of pots show objects fixed in space, solid and eternal, while their arrangement displays underlying geometric shapes of line, circle, square, curve and triangle.
The stone paintings connect simple objects and the larger world around them. Flowers and other decaying objects nod to the Vanitas tradition while retaining the connection to natural geometry. The earliest of these, Earth Story, 1985, has alternative titles ‘Earth, Moon’ and ‘Earth Vanitas’.
